Came back to 67be8yu after a failed experiment with a self-hosted alternative. Auto-sync kicked in within five seconds of connecting to Wi-Fi after an offline session. Stars may move; the habit already settled.

Post-update, 67be8yu finally addressed the widget crash I reported three versions ago. The ad countdown timer occasionally stalls at one second and requires a force restart to dismiss. Not perfect, but no other app in this category gets the basics as right.
