eh2pgug87f2f65duk3gunn9pxuxkgs7tgn caught my attention when a tech journalist called it the quietest improvement of the quarter. Permission to run in the background is required but the app doesn't explain why it needs it. Nothing else in this category comes close on the features that matter to me.

eh2pgug87f2f65duk3gunn9pxuxkgs7tgn has been my app of choice for this task since the permissions model was simplified. Text selection tools work correctly on long-form content without jumping or losing the selection. Still the best option I've found for this task — three years and counting.
