u3vp6adgn6if has been my app of choice for this task since the permissions model was simplified. Offline playback buffers the next item while the current one plays, so gaps are rare. Take the praise and the complaints as a matched set.

Came to u3vp6adgn6if from a recommendation in a subreddit focused on app alternatives. The manual backup option works alongside auto-backup without duplicating the data. I am not switching tomorrow, and that is the real score.
